A little help with Pennykin.

Answers about signing in, your child's balance, allowance, confirming records, and deleting an account.

Common questions

Does Pennykin hold or move my child's money?

No. Pennykin is a record of money your family keeps for your child or has promised them. The money stays with you. Pennykin does not connect to a bank or card, and it never sends, receives or holds money.

Each child has their own balance. When you hand your child cash, record it with Cash given: it leaves the balance, and you don't record it again when they spend it.

How do I sign in or sign up?

Tap Log in / Sign up, enter your email address, then enter the six-digit code we email you. The same steps create a new account. There is no password.

If the code doesn't arrive, check the address and your spam folder, then ask for a new code. If it still doesn't arrive, email support without including the code.

Do I need a parent PIN?

No. During setup you can choose Not now. To add one later, open the account menu, tap Parent PIN, then Set a PIN; we first email you a code to confirm it's you. A PIN keeps parent pages locked when your child uses your phone.

Can my child use Pennykin without their own phone or email?

Yes. After you add your child, open the account menu and choose Use as [name], then hand them your phone or iPad. If you set a PIN, parent pages stay locked until you enter it.

From age 13, a child can sign in with their own email on their own device. Open the account menu and choose Invite a kid to sign in. Children under 13 can't create their own account.

Before publication: a lawyer confirms the notice and consent parents give before a child uses Pennykin, and how a parent reviews or deletes a child's information.

Does allowance send money automatically?

No. Allowance is a schedule in your child's record. On the days you choose, Pennykin adds the allowance to the balance, even if the app is closed. Nothing is sent from a bank or card.

Any parent can edit the amount or days, skip one, pause it, or end it. Saving a schedule doesn't add anything until its first day.

Why didn't my child's record change the balance?

A record your child sends waits for a parent. On Home, a parent can confirm it, change the amount first, or send it back with a reason. Only a confirmed record changes the balance.

Records a parent adds count right away. When your child taps Got it on an update, it only marks it as read.

How do I fix an amount?

Open the record and choose Change amount. You can change it to any amount, including zero. The old amount stays visible in the record's history so everyone can see what changed.

If you sent a record back, your child can change it and send it again.

The balance looks out of date.

Pull down on Home to refresh, or go back to Home from another page. Pennykin needs an internet connection to save records.

If the app is still checking whether a record was saved, let it finish. Don't add the same record again.

I forgot my parent PIN.

Tap Forgot PIN? on the PIN screen and confirm it's you with a code sent to your email. Support will never ask for your PIN or a sign-in code.

How do I leave a family?

Open the account menu, tap Family members, and choose Leave family…. You lose access to the family's children, and the family keeps its records. The parent who created the family can't leave it, but can delete it.

How do I delete a child profile, the family or my account?

These are three different actions, and none of them can be undone.

  • A child profile: open the account menu, tap Family members, open the child and choose Delete [name]'s profile…. Their balance and records are deleted.
  • The family: the parent who created it can choose Delete family… at the bottom of Family members. Every child's records are deleted.
  • Your account: open the account menu and choose Delete account…. The app shows what will be deleted; confirm once and you are signed out.

If the parent who created the family deletes their account, the family and every child's records are deleted; other parents and kids with their own sign-in keep their accounts but lose access. If another parent deletes their account, the family keeps its records. If a kid with their own sign-in deletes their account, their profile and records are deleted.

Before publication: set how someone who can't open the app asks us by email to delete their account, and how we confirm it's them.
